About South Congo Cyber Security Center (Africa)
Developed in Africa, this 32,500 m² cyber security center was designed to house advanced technology infrastructure.
A cybersecurity centre houses data and operations infrastructure that must run without interruption. The tropical climate shapes the precision cooling systems, and grid reliability drives the redundant power infrastructure.
South Congo Cyber Security Center (Africa) is one of the reference projects in Sönmez Mühendislik's technology centers, cultural and social facilities portfolio. Since 1995, Sönmez Mühendislik has provided structural, electrical, mechanical and infrastructure engineering with BIM coordination for projects in Türkiye and abroad.
Approach
Engineering for data centres
With their requirements for uninterrupted power, precision cooling and redundant infrastructure, data centres are among the most critical engineering projects.
- High-load floors and seismic design
- MV/LV distribution, UPS and generator infrastructure
- Precision cooling and hot/cold aisle layout
- BIM coordination in services-dense areas
Engineering
Key engineering topics for this type of project
Continuity and efficiency are the core design criteria for data centres. Power density per rack, redundancy level and cooling strategy shape the entire structural, electrical and mechanical design.
- 01
Structure for heavy loads
The structure is sized separately for racks, UPS, batteries and raised floors.
- 02
Redundant power
MV/LV distribution, UPS and generators are configured to the target redundancy level (e.g. N+1, 2N).
- 03
Precision cooling
Hot/cold aisle separation and precision air conditioning deliver efficient cooling.
- 04
Fire protection
Gas suppression and very early smoke detection systems are used.
Projects abroad: Engineering for projects abroad takes into account the country's codes in force, climate, local material and equipment supply and the grid infrastructure. High temperatures directly affect cooling loads, and grid reliability directly affects generator and backup power capacity.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What does the Tier level mean in data centre projects?
The Uptime Institute Tier classification (Tier I–IV) defines the redundancy of a data centre and its ability to keep running during maintenance; higher tiers need more redundant power and cooling.
What is PUE in a data centre?
Power Usage Effectiveness is the ratio of total facility energy to IT equipment energy; the closer to 1, the more efficient the facility.
What matters in the structural design of a data centre?
Heavy equipment loads from racks, UPS and batteries, raised floors and restraining equipment during earthquakes.
