About Pendik State Hospital Energy Efficiency Works

Carried out at Pendik State Hospital, this work focuses on optimising the facility’s energy consumption.

The first step in energy efficiency work is an accurate assessment of the actual consumption of existing systems. Based on measurement and analysis, improvements such as equipment replacement, lighting upgrades and automation are prioritised into a roadmap that delivers the greatest savings for the hospital.

Pendik State Hospital Energy Efficiency Works is one of the reference projects in Sönmez Mühendislik's healthcare facilities portfolio. Since 1995, Sönmez Mühendislik has provided structural, electrical, mechanical and infrastructure engineering with BIM coordination for projects in Türkiye and abroad.

Approach

Energy efficiency in existing hospitals

Because hospitals run 24/7, they are among the highest energy consumers in the public building stock. Energy efficiency works aim to measure and improve existing systems and reduce operating costs without disrupting hospital services.

  • Measurement and analysis of existing energy use
  • Improvement of heating, cooling and ventilation systems
  • Efficiency in lighting and electrical infrastructure
  • Continuous tracking through automation and monitoring

Engineering

Key engineering topics for this type of project

Improvements in a working hospital must be planned so that patient care is not interrupted. Measurement, analysis and implementation are therefore organised together with hospital management.

  1. 01

    Measurement and assessment

Consumption of existing boilers, chillers, air handling units, pumps and lighting is analysed.

  2. 02

    Efficient equipment

Low-efficiency equipment is replaced with high-efficiency, variable-speed solutions where justified.

  3. 03

    Lighting

Existing luminaires are upgraded to LED, with sensor-based control where appropriate.

  4. 04

    Automation and monitoring

Building automation runs systems on demand and tracks consumption continuously.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does an energy efficiency project disrupt hospital services?

When works are phased department by department and planned with hospital management, service interruptions are kept to a minimum.

Where does energy efficiency make the biggest difference?

Heating and cooling, ventilation, pumps and lighting account for most of a hospital's consumption, so the largest savings come from these systems.

How does building automation help?

It runs systems according to occupancy and demand, makes consumption visible and flags deviations early.
